Respect and Esteem for The Prophet

بسْم الله الرّحْمن الرّحيم، اللّهمّ صلِّ على سيّدنا محمّدٍ وآله

 وصحْبه وسلِّم

‘Amr ibn al-‘As said, “There is none I have loved more than the Messenger of Allah nor anyone I have respected more. I could never get my fill of looking at him due to my great respect for him. If I had been asked to describe him, i could not have done so because I was unable to look at him enough.”

“O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not.” 49:2

Al-Mughira said, “The Companions of the Messenger of Allah pbuh would knock on his door with their fingernails.” When Quraysh gave Saiyidina ‘Uthman permission to do tawaf  of the Ka’bah when the Prophet sent him as an envoy to them and he refused, saying, “I will not do it until the Messenger of Allah does.”

Anas said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah when his hair was being shaved. His companions were around him and whenever a lock fell, a man picked it up”

Mus’ab ibn ‘Abdullah said, “When the Prophet was mentioned, Malik would grow pale so that it distressed those with him. One day he was asked about this. He said, “If you had seen what I have seen, you would not be suprised at what you see me do. I used to see Muhammad ibn Munkadir, the master of the Qur’an reciters. Almost every time he was asked about a hadith, he wept until his eyes were red. I saw Ja’far ibn Muhammad who joked and laughed a lot, but when the Prophet was mentioned in his presence, he grew pale. I never saw him relate a hadith of the Messenger of Allah except in a state of ritual purity. I frequented him for a time and only saw him doing one of three things – praying, fasting, or reciting Qur’an. He only spoke about what concerned him. He was one of the men of knowledge and those who fear Allah.

‘Amir ibn ‘Abdullah would weep when the Prophet was mentioned until he had no more tears to weep while Safwan ibn Sulayman would weep until people got up and left him.

‘Abdullah ibn Mubarak said, “I was with Malik when he was teaching us hadith. A scorpion stung him sixteen times. He changed colour and grew quite pale, but did not interrupt the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah. When he finished and the people departed, I said to him, ‘Abu ‘Abdullah! I saw you do something extraordinary today!’ He said, ‘Yes, I endured it out of respect for the Messenger of Allah.'”

Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah said, “Every stone or tree that the Prophet passed prostrated to him.” ‘Ali said, “We were in Makka with the Messenger of Allah and he went to one of its districts and every single tree and mountain he passed said to him, ‘Peace be upon you, Messenger of Allah.’ “

Lifeless, brainless stones, inanimate objects, animals greeted the Messenger of Allah while we don’t send blessings and prayers to him when his name is mentioned, truly we have hearts harder than stones. May Allah aid us so that we say the selawats with love and esteem. Amin

It is related that Safiyya bint Najda said, “Abu Madhura had a lock of hair at the front of his head which touched the groun when he sat down. He was asked, ‘Why don’t you cut it off?’ He said, ‘I will not cut off something that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, touched with his hand.'” Ibn ‘Umar was seen to place his hand on the seat of the Prophet in the minbar and then place it on his face.

The famous story of the crazy camel which went amok in a garden: Tha’laba ibn Malik relates, “No one entered the garden without the camel attacking him. When the Prophet entered the garden, he called it and the camel put its mouth on the ground and knelt before him. He put a halter on it. He said, ‘There is nothing between the heavens and the earth which does not know that I am the Messenger of Allah except for the rebels among the jinn and men.’ “

May our respect and esteem for The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him increase with every blessing and prayer we sent to him. May all our actions be based upon his way, may he be pleased with our actions, pleased with our states as pleasing him is pleasing Allah. May our hearts be purified so that his presence can be felt upon every salam we sent to him. May our hearts be purified further such that the veil is lifted everytime we send salams to him and his blessed presence is seen with the eye of the heart. May our hearts be purified further such that none of our nafs remain and only the light of the Prophet shine from within and without. Amin Amin Amin Ya Rabbal ‘alamiin!!!
