Excerpts of Habib ‘Umar Bin Hafidz’s lectures 1

On the loftiness of Dzikir (Remembrance of Allah)

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem…

…Keep remembrance of Allah every moment. Recall what Allah mentioned in The Qur’an : “O ye who believe, keep remembrance of Allah, abundant remembrance”.

Some of the companions asked The Prophet s.a.w., “Ya Rasulullah, among those who fight in the way of Allah who are the ones who obtained the greatest benefit?”

The Prophet s.a.w. replied, “They are those who keep remembrance of Allah the most among them.”

The companions asked again, “Ya Rasulullah, among those who pray who are they who reap the greatest benefit?”

The Prophet s.a.w. replied, “They are those who keep remembrance of Allah the most among them.”

Some of the companions asked again, “Ya Rasulullah, among those who give alms to the needy, who will reap the greatest benefit?”

The Prophet s.a.w. replied to them, “The ones who keep remembrance of Allah the most among them.”

… upon hearing these, Saiydina Abu Bakar and Sayidina ‘Umar both said to The Prophet s.a.w., ” This means that those who remember Allah the most are the ones who obtain the best of this world and the hereafter!”

The Prophet s.a.w. then said, “Yes, the people who keep remembrance of Allah the most obtains the best of this world and the hereafter.”

The Book of Assistance by Imam Al-Haddad

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem…

On Regular Devotions : –

You must fill up your time with acts of worship so that no time passes without being used in some act of goodness…Multiplying and varying your wird brings about blessings as each wird (acts of devotion e.g. invocations, prayers, reflection and acquiring knowledge) has a particular effect on the heart, a light, a flow of assistance madad.

Assign to yourself some awrad (pl. wird) to persevere with at specific times that you make up for if missed.

My Master, Shaykh Abd Ar-Rahman As-Seggaf, May Allah be pleased with him, has said, : ” Whoever has no wird is a qird (monkey)!”

And the Prophet s.a.w. has said, : “Invoke Allah so abundantly that the hypocrites say that you are ostentatious!”
